The difference between UVA and UVB
UVA rays are now known to represent about 95% of the ultraviolet radiation (UV) that reaches the Earth’s surface. “Penetrate the clouds, the glass, while entering into the deeper layers of the skin, impairing the long term the DNA of the cell. They are the main cause of photoaging, resulting in the appearance of wrinkles and discolorations, loss of firmness of the skin and, in some cases, the appearance of cancer”, informs us the Kateline Turgeon, director of education at the department of Active Cosmetics group l’oréal in Canada. On the other hand, the UVB rays are responsible for sunburns, allergic reactions, and skin cancer.

The sunscreen
According to Dr. Sonya Abdulla, dermatologist at the clinical Dermatology on Bloor in Toronto, to shield our skin opposite to the sun, not only is it necessary to use the sunscreen, but it is very important and the quantity that we will use. “Use more than five teaspoons of sunscreen in emulsion”, advises the doctor and continues. “In particular, apply by 1/2 tsp. on the face, neck and in each arm. Continue blending, 1 whole tsp. on the trunk, back and on each leg. If, however, you select a sunscreen spray, spray for three or four seconds in each part of the body before spreading with the hands”.

Time is ticking
Despite the fact that some natural filters against UV radiation, act as soon as they come in contact with the skin, experts agree that it is preferable to apply the sun protective compositions 20’ to 30’ before we go out in the sun to ensure the full absorption of the skin. Every two hours you need to renew, as well as after swimming, if you have sweat or if we wiped it with a towel.

Hot hours
How many times have we heard that we should avoid sun exposure in the summer, in the hours of intense sunlight, i.e., between 10 p.µ. and 3 states.µ.; “The single most important reason for this warning is the following: at that time the UV radiation is at its peak, posing a serious risk to the health,” says Dr Abdulla.
